As of January 2024, Maine now requires anyone born after January 1999 to have a Maine Boating Certificate if operating a boat of more than 25Hp . We do not rent boats to anyone under 25 however if you have a child who is a secondary operator of any of our boats they will need to take this online course and send us a copy of the certificate once complete. Maine offers a temporary, 14-day certificate for $12.99 and a lifetime certificate for $34.95 Maine Wardens will be stopping folks this summer to check on this so please keep a copy with you!

Step 1

Do you want a New Maine Temporary Boating Certificate or a Lifetime Boating Certificate?

Any person born on or after January 1, 1999, who wishes to operate a motorboat for recreational boating purposes, and that vessel is propelled by a machine capable of producing more than 25 horsepower on the inland waters or territorial waters of Maine, must:
-  Be 12 years of age or older AND-  Possess a Boaters Safety Certificate.
Maine is offering two kinds of courses. One is for a temporary certificate that would allow someone 25 years old or under to operate one of North Haven Rentals’ boats. The certificate is good for 14 days. There is also a “Lifetime” certificate that would be good until you are over 25. North Haven Rentals needs one of these; you choose which you would prefer.

Step 2
